October 1st, 2004 : A new Irish fabless semiconductor company, RedMere Technology Ltd., was founded today in Dublin, Ireland. The new company will deliver serial interface ICs to consumer multimedia Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). RedMere particularly specialises in high speed and very low power mixed signal devices.
The company was set up to address the semiconductor needs of the
rapidly expanding consumer home entertainment market. Recent global
developments such as the arrival of digital TV have lead to the
emergence of new digital interface standards to deal with
communications between applications in this market. Large volumes of
such digital video and audio data require high speed communications
ICs, an area in which RedMere's engineers have many years' experience.
nitial products lined up by RedMere are targeted at applications
such as high definition TVs, set top boxes, DVD players, DVD recorders,
home theatre systems and personal video recorders. RedMere's ICs will
be high performance, high density, low power and low cost mixed signal
devices developed on independent Asian foundries using the latest CMOS
technologies such as 0.13µm and 90nm. RedMere's engineers have a wealth
of experience in delivering advanced mixed signal designs operating at
over 3 Gbps.
