Ultrabook cables – RedMere enabled cables for the latest great gadgets

So what exactly is an ultrabook? According to www.webopedia.com ‘Ultrabooks are a new category of notebook computers that seeks to fill the gap between lightweight laptops and tablets.  Intel dubbed the ultrabook category when it announced it would be directing its mobile computing efforts towards a new class of laptops that would offer an extremely thin (less than 20 millimeters, or 0.8 inches) and lightweight profile to go along with high-powered, low voltage processors, long battery life, near instant-on and instant-resume capabilities, and fast storage…’

In actual fact the word “ultrabook” is a trademarked Intel product but the term itself has become the current hottest technology buzzword. And there are some very hot ultrabooks entering the market today sporting razor thin design, sharp ergonomics and top performances and of course a full QWERTY keyboard to boot, such as the Lenova IdeaPad U300 and U400 Ultrabook, HP Folio 13, Toshiba Portege, LG Super Ultrabook, Asus Zenbook and the Samsung 5 Series to name a few, all of which have HDMI out. Like the ultrabook, RedMere enabled HDMI cables are ultra-sleek, very portable and guarantee a reliable performance. Enjoy all your media and on-line viewing in full HD with a RedMere enabled HDMI cable and when you are finish viewing, simply pop the cable into your jeans pocket or laptop case.

RedMere’s technology continues to be used by more mobile accessory providers like Motorola for their active cables

RedMere’s unique active cable booster module technology continues to be adopted by the accessory providers such as Motorola who now sell a new line of active HDMI cables, the High Speed 1080p HDMI Cable (15ft.). This active cable from Motorola comes with a micro-connector to connect smaller mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, digitally to a HDTV. RedMere’s active cable technology enables a huge reduction of copper and PVC from the production of HDMI cables, meaning active HDMI cables are  environmentally friendly as well as being easy to carry around and capable of transmitting full 1080p HD, 3D and 4K2K output on the big screen.

HDMI cables for tablets – RedMere enable the thinnest, longest and lightest on the market

Last week Forrest Research published a report that said that tablets are becoming the primary device of choice for millions of people worldwide. They predicted that sales of tablet computers in 2016 would hit 375 million, and 760 million tablets could be in use worldwide by that date with an annual-growth rate of 46 percent. According to the report, Apple’s iPad® will represent one-third of all tablet purchases by 2016.

Tablets are the most media friendly of the portable devices and there is much research to explain the use and popularity of these devices and how they influence viewing trends. Tablet growth is supported by increasing usage models for portable devices (e.g. Cloud and OTT on the go), their production by major companies like Samsung, Motorola, BlackBerry, LG, and HTC and the gradual fall in retail prices. Much of the usage models involve viewing and sharing high-def videos, TV, movies and games. Connecting and sharing full 1080p high definition media from the tablet to the HDTV is simple with a HDMI tablet cable powered by RedMere’s technology inside the connector of the cable. This is because RedMere’s active booster module for HDMI cables does all the work that copper and PVC does in standard passive HDMI cables–this allows the cables to be produced thinner, lighter and longer, easy to carry around and plug in and out of the back of the device or HDTV, yet 100% compliant with High Speed HDMI® standards.

New laptops for 2012 – use a RedMere enabled cable to view games, video or OTT content on the big screen on the go

Several of the coolest new laptops this year all feature HDMI ports which means that with a RedMere enabled cable the user can share media such as on-line content, videos or the latest HD games on the go with friends on a HDTV screen. Much of the new laptops this year are moving towards the ‘ultra-book’ look and feel. This is because thin is in and cables with RedMere inside are the only active thin, portable, bendable HDMI cables out there on the market to allow users to share media easily.

Some of the coolest new ultrabooks include the super-thin Acer Inspire S5 – an update on the S3 whch is being described as the ‘world’s thinnest ultrabook’. Although it has not been released yet it was previewed at CES. At only 15mm thick and weighing less than 3 pounds with a sleek design the S5 features an Intel Core processor, SSD storage and Dolby Home Theater v4 technology. Already released and in the market is the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook featuring an optical drive, HDMI port and other connections and a 500GB hard drive. Samsung’s Series 9, available this later year is a super-slim 15-inch screen notebook with Micro-HDMI input has a ‘big, bright screen’ and about 7 hours battery life and was described in a review by CNET as a ‘beautiful computer’.

The new batch of ultra-slim ultrabooks and notebooks are quick to boot up, lighter and thinner than ever, so use them with a RedMere enabled HDMI cable to guarantee full 1080p output for professional or recreational use, and afterwards you can pop the cable in your pocket or case for HD viewing on the go.

More online content delivers 1080p output – optimize viewing with a RedMere enabled HDMI cable

A recent article by HomeMedia Magazine said that online services were inching closer to claiming to deliver 1080p output. Online content delivery is gaining ground as a popular way to view on-demand TV shows and movies as opposed to the traditional delivery methods like broadcast cable television or renting a DVD from the local store.

In the article HomeMedia said that both the PlayStation Network and the Xbox 360 offer 1080p video. Walmart’s Vudu movie service uses the 1080p HDX video format, which Walmart says “delivers the highest-quality true high-definition 1080p content available from any Internet, broadcast or satellite on-demand service.” Best Buy’s CinemaNow offers 1080p, and Netflix, which began offering 1080p streaming in 2010, offers 1080p streaming on the new Apple TV, and has plans for 1080p streaming on the new iPad. Many new handheld devices can stream OTT content to the HDTV, such as Motorola’s new range of smartphones and the Xoom; all reasons pointing to the need to the use an active HDMI cable over a passive cable.

Only a cable with RedMere inside is an active cable, as the booster technology in the connector does all the work the heavy copper and PVC does in standard HDMI cables, resulting in ultra-slim, thin, portable, light HDMI cables you can pop in your pocket or slip easily behind the HDTV or XBox console and most importantly they guarantee crystal clear full 1080p High Definition quality on the screen.

RedMere announces Booster Modules Providing for Environmentally Friendly Long HDMI Cables

RedMere’s PRE169x family are compact, fully compliant, High Speed HDMI® booster modules that guarantee an interoperable performance over thinner, more eco-friendly cables for distances of up to 45 meters. RedMere’s patented technology for active HDMI cables means that 80% less copper and PVC are needed in manufacture compared to standard HDMI cables. The loss of the thickness of the gauge in these eco-friendly active cables means that the wire can be produced thinner, lighter and longer

RedMere’s CEO Ruud van der Linden commented “The PRE169x family addresses the needs of the world’s most eco-friendly long HDMI cables. These devices will be embraced by the home-installer segment who will immediately see the simplification of routing cables. We believe this will also open up new potential customers; such as for High Definition Connectivity in an office environment to large displays or projectors. Since our chip requires no external power due to its low power design and patented power-harvesting techniques, end customers can use our cables anywhere they would a passive cable and external booster.”

HDMI Booster Module from RedMere

Smart HDMI cables that feature RedMere’s HDMI module are ‘active’ as opposed to traditional or ‘passive’ HDMI cables. Using a process of active-equalization in the chip, the module effectively compensates for the signal loss – acting as the powerhouse of the cable and allowing it to shed 80% of its layers of copper and PVC. Copper and PVC are the components that do all the “heavy lifting” in the passive cable architecture, making the cables bulky, weighty and hard to manoeuvre. RedMere enabled cables are fully compliant with High Speed HDMI® cables standards-ensuring 3D and 4K2K compatibility.

RedMere’s module uses a patented technology called power-harvesting and it fits into the sink side or the display side connector of the cable – there are many advantages to drawing the power from the sink device i.e. the HDTV. No additional or external power supply is needed for these HDMI cables and power boosters can be a factor in very long passive HDMI cable installations which can lead to extra costs. Also, the power is not drawn from the source device, which very often can be a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet, thus saving on the draw from the battery. As HDMI is very much a consumer focused segment, these cost effective and user-friendly solutions are vital.

RedMere’s favourites from Mobile World Congress 2012 – HDMI Mirroring

RedMere attended MWC this year and thought that although no theme in particular stood out, the show was memorable once again for several reasons–Window’s 8 was demo’ed and the major talking point of the week was the 41-megapixel Nokia PureView Smartphone (with HDMI) which will be out in May.

The Nokia PureView with HDMI-out will be able to zoom in and crop images while still retaining terrific detail in the image. In addition to that the video recorder can record in full 1080p HD and the phone can capture perfect CD-quality audio. However only an ultra-thin and portable HDMI cable with RedMere’s technology can fully optimise this phone’s features, guaranteeing full 1080p and higher output (3D and 4K2K) they are the only type of cable on the market today that you can carry with you and share full HD images and video on the go.

Another favourite of RedMere’s at the MWC this year was the proliferation of HDMI mirroring use cases like gaming on the big screen, work-space docking and image sharing. On the same theme Motorola demo’ed their new phones and tablets, all of which could stream OTT content like Netflix onto a HDTV while mirroring. Again only a RedMere enabled cable can give you the full benefits of content delivery on the move as RedMere enabled HDMI cables are the only HDMI cables that are long, yet thin enough to pop in your pocket and because of the built-in booster module guarantee full HD output.

We also met RIM at the show whose Playbook (now with OS 2.0) also features HDMI out with HDMI mirroring as an important feature.
